How Does Reiki Work?
Reiki works by activating the parasympathetic nervous system, which slows our heart and breathing rates while lowering blood pressure and promoting digestion. The body then enters into a state of relaxation, and this relaxation breeds recovery.
Reiki is based on the foundation of Quantum physics. Quantum physics says that 99.9999 percent of what is called ‘matter’ is actually empty space. Within this space is energy. There is energy in everything from the smallest atom within our body to the sun which supports our solar system.
The Japanese word ‘Reiki’ translates to universal, life-force energy. Many ancient traditions believe an invisible energy force flows through your body, giving you life. This life-force energy has different names depending on the culture, such as ‘chi’ in Chinese, ‘prana’ in Sanskrit, and ‘ki’ in Japanese.
When the energy flow is blocked or out of balance, due to physical or emotional disruptions, you can become sick. Energy therapies including acupuncture, qi gong, healing touch and Reiki, work to unblock or re-balance your energy flow.
During a Reiki session, the recipient actively participates by allowing the time to be one of deep relaxation and openness to receive whatever they might need from the session. The Reiki practitioner is both attuned to the energy and trained to facilitate the flow of the energy, or ki, to go where it is needed. By receiving Reiki and allowing your body’s energy to flow, you get both immediate relief and continued improvement of physical and mental symptoms.
Reiki can never do harm. It is always helpful and always safe. That is the nature of universal life-force energy, always working with the vibration of love.
